3 Easy Yoga Poses That Made a Difference

These three yoga poses made a difference – and yep – downward dog is one of them 🐶

Next week will be the one-year mark of my back surgery and it’s taken me the last nine-months to touch my toes again {yep, like being pregnant all over again}.

I started yoga years ago to quiet my head, not like voices in my head, well, kinda like voices in my head. My mind is constantly thinking or worrying or going through a checklist of all the stuff. It’s always been hard for me to just sit and relax. A friend recommended trying yoga as a good way to stretch + focus.

After surgery the instructions were… “no bending, twisting, lifting for 6 weeks,” so all that flexibility I’d contorted my body for dissolved like that sugar syrup into your sweet tea.

When I was cleared for the bending, twisting and lifting yoga was the only exercise that tamed my tiny but mighty nerve that was pinched for so long.

So if you’re looking to improve your flexibility, escape the hectic day for 30 to 60 minutes, or just want to mix up your exercise routine…

Here are three poses to start:: {think this is where the disclaimer comes in – I AM NOT a certified yogi – I’m just putting out there what works for me}

  1. Downward Dog Pose

Downward Dog will be found in almost every yoga class and here is a short video tutorial.

2. Triangle pose gives a nice stretch through the mid-section + helps lengthen {image from yogagardensf.com}

Trikonasana / Triangle Pose is explained in this short video.

3. Pigeon pose is the last one, but it’s only until recently I practice it without grumbling through my breaths. There are different variations to this pose to try.

There are a lot of yoga classes to try. Google your area + yoga to find a class to try or try some of these at-home video’s.

One more time in case you missed it…I’M NOT AN EXPERT! I’m just a gal trying to touch my toes again 😉

Here’s a 30-minute practice for ATHLETES/RUNNERS that I add-in once awhile.

STRESS-MELT practice

If you want to try yoga at home, give Yoga with Adriene a try on YouTube. She has some great beginner videos + explains why to try them.

Each week on Instagram I post a new #TipTuesday – come on over and have a peek!
