5 Tips to Ease the Shock of… “She Can’t Be a Senior Already!”

It’s summer now, but we’ll blink and the Class of 2019 will be walking the high school halls one last year and we Mom’s say… “She/He can’t be a senior already!”

How did this happen so fast?

That’s a question we high school Mom’s utter ALL. THE. TIME.  Once teens start high school it moves at a faster pace. I know, I know, there are still 24-hours in a day.  Some weeks I feel like Genie in the bottle {yes, definitely dating myself} where I accidentally blink and lose a piece of time.  But one perk to my job is talking to senior mom’s over the years and getting their thoughts.

I put together 5 quick tips in this week’s post to ease the shock of starting senior year, 😉

Soak Up These Summer Months

Plan a trip, stay-cation, or mini-day trips this summer. Take advantage of this Summer down time and get in some special moments with your Senior before the rush of Fall. If you’re looking for ideas, I’ve created a Bucket List of options.

Talk To Other Mom’s

Ask other Mom’s for their #1 best advice for senior year. How did they help their Senior with narrowing down colleges? When did they do college visits? What’s the best place to start looking for scholarships? When did you have their graduation party? Veteran Mama’s are a great resource to help you navigate senior year for the first time. I’ve done some research for you too + created a Grad Party Checklist that you can download. A digital + printable copy will arrive to your inbox.

Get Organized For College Applications

Visiting, applying, and accepting your college is a BIG PROCESS. And then comes the scholarship process.  How to Organize College Information is a good starter article for getting your ducks in a row before Fall rolls around.

Present Over Perfect

We can all get caught up in the “busy” and stressing over making everything perfect.

STOP!

BREATHE! and remind yourself, “I got this!”

Everyone’s senior year is different, so don’t make it a comparison game. Don’t stress yourself out over forcing everything to be perfect. I tell my teens all the time to ask themselves this one question…

Will this matter in 5 years? If the answer is, “yes!” then it’s a big deal. If it’s, “no” then let it go! And we can ask ourselves the same question.

Reserve Your Senior Portrait Experience

Senior yearbook photos are typically setup in July. You’re getting your photo done for the yearbook, but you do not have to buy/use them for your senior portraits. This is a once in a lifetime moment! This is the end of a long chapter in life! Celebrate it + capture this moment before time whisks it all away.  These are photographic memories you will have FOREVER! And they WILL MATTER in 5 years 🙂
