Habits |Just 30 Days|Can You Do It?

Can you name three of your habits? It doesn’t matter if they are good or bad habits, just if three of your habits come to mind.

The problem with new year resolutions is that a year is a really long time. We set goals on January 1 and by June they’ve faded away, okay, for me, it’s by April. Last September I read the book, Girl, Wash Your Face, by Rachel Hollis and in one of her chapters she wrote about setting a goal for 30 days. Which makes WAY MORE SENSE to me than 365. How ’bout you?

Let’s get science-y for a second. It takes 21 days to form a habit {that part’s legit. “Science-y” I made up just for you} .

When we strip it down to basics isn’t that what we’re after in setting a goal, making the change a habit?

“I want to eat healthier.” {make it a habit}

“I want to lose 20 pounds.” {and keep it off…habit}

“I’m going to exercise 3-days a week.” {keep at it until…? yep, it becomes part of your routine or habit}

Instead of setting a year-long goal + setting them only in January let’s do our own thing. YOU, do you! We get caught up in the status-quo sometimes + think there’s only one way to do something. Ok, speaking for myself, I GET CAUGHT up in the one-way to do things. But, that’s why we read, why we should always keep learning + growing. This book helped me see my goals in a different light and that my way of succeeding isn’t going to look like your’s.

Truth – I sometimes look at other’s success and wonder what I’m missing or not doing right. I’m only human. However, I’m gettin’ better.

Another piece that’s helped me focus is revisiting the making of a Vision Board. I haven’t done that in a loooooong time. My goals are plastered up in my closet where I see them EVERY. DAY. Being a very visual person {I know, a photographer, visual learner, go figure}, the photos, clippings, quotes + inspiration remind me every morning to do something towards reaching my goals 30 days at a time.

I have a few goals that will take over a year, + others pieces on the board that remind me to add events to my calendar every month.

Tiny steps. Slower steps. They’re steps in the right direction. What habit are you forming this month? What’s a 30-day, 6-month, or 1-year goal you’re thinking about?

Keep them in front of you.

Work at it one month at a time. #21days

Give yourself permission to pivot/change your goals in the middle so you can find the best way for YOUR success.
