SMP Book club for 2021

Another Book Club!?

It’s not your typical book club. But maybe you just want to peek at new ideas or places to buy or borrow your books. Whichever it is, I’m here for you in all those categories today!

Grab your cup of coffee, tea, or water and let’s talk about some good reads + the great spots to find them.

Book Club For One

Are you on the #52booksin52weeks train? Maybe in a real book club that meets once-a-month to compare notes? Or just read occasionally when you have the time?

Whichever club you’re in, we have A LOT of book choices.

Every year I keep an on-going list of books I want to read. Sometimes I get in 1 a month, sometimes 2, and yes, during my busy photography months…ZERO. I’m that creative loosey-goosey type reader. But I try + by the end of the year it balances out to one-per-month.

I don’t even try to keep up with Emma anymore because she puts me to shame with the number of books she goes through in a month. However, that’s also a BIG PLUS for me. When I want to switch genres she has some great recommendations.

I post my book for the month in my Facebook Shine Group. At the end of the month I’ll write my take on the book before posting the next one. Join us in the conversation, find a new book idea, or chime in with a book you’re reading. It’s pretty relaxed; no rules or deadlines, because we have enough of those in our lives. And books are a place to relax, fall into a far off place, sometimes learn, sometimes grow or improve.

Every Soul a Star. FANGIRL. The Beginning of Everything. The fun reads

However you read {or listen} to books we can’t go wrong sharing more titles that we love.

How do you ‘read’?

Do you read on an electronic device? Or do you love turning the pages of a paper book? Maybe you’re a listener instead?

Whichever way you consume books you can find them in all sorts of places. So why not join the book club this year!

The public library has free digital resources you can download to your phone or ipad. The library system offers Hoopla + Libby to read + listen electronically. You can find a comparison of both in this post HERE. All you need is a library card number and you can start search for books.

If you love the paper pages turning between your fingers then check out our very own local book shop, Harvey’s Tales in Geneva, Illinois. It’s adorable inside, great helpers, + a coffee bar. And if you don’t want to go out in these freezing temps you can shop Harvey’s online through SpotsontheFox.com

If you stop inside there’s a hot coffee bar + two floors of books…GOOOOOD! {How do I come up with a line from Friends in everything I write!? The one when Rachel makes her meat trifle and Joey says, “What’s not to like…custard good, jam good, meat gooood.”🤣 }

One last resource for you as we start our 2021 book club.. Bookshop.org . It’s an online book store that supports local book shops.

My two books {+ 1} to start 2021::

I’m starting the new year out by listening to The Dorito Effect by Mark Schatzker and hoping to read Broken Throne by Victoria Aveyard that Emma just purchased from Harvey’s yesterday. And if I’m ambitious {or snowed in} I have The Late Bloomers Club by Louis Miller reserved at the library.

What’s first up on your list?

P.S. I hope you’ll come on in the Facebook Shine Group this year for some book inspiration + Mom life too💖

P.P.S A book club might not seem to relate to a photography business, but it kinda does. It started years ago when I was photographing my little girl who would spend hours, and I mean hours sitting on her bed, floor, or tiny corner, reading everything she could find. My Little will be 19 this year {my stomach flip-flopped just typing that}. She now has a whole library of books on her shelves that I borrow from often.

It’s become part of the story. Why would I stop now? This post was the first time I shared some of our books on the blog.

And if you’re up for coming along for the #SMPBookClub 2021 adventure, Here is the February Book list!
